DomusCalc is a personal project, run by an individual from the United States. It is not a company, it is not entered in any commercial register, it practises no regulated profession and it needs no administrative licence for what it does.

What DomusCalc is

An informational site with 48 free calculators for home improvement, cooking and HVAC. Access is open, there is no sign-up, there are no accounts and nothing is for sale: there are no prices to quote because there is nothing to buy.

Terms of use

The calculators are offered as they are, for personal and professional use. Using them means accepting these terms. All that is asked is the reasonable part: do not try to disrupt the service, do not scrape the content wholesale to republish it, and do not present the results as a signed engineering calculation.

The results are guideline estimates

The numbers DomusCalc returns are estimates for planning and buying materials. They depend on the values you enter and on assumptions that every page states in writing.

  • They do not replace a structural calculation, an engineering design or a professional installation.
  • Real coverage figures and densities vary between manufacturers, batches and site conditions. Check them against the product data sheet.
  • Kitchen equivalences depend on how you fill the measure: weighing always beats measuring in cups.

Specific warning about HVAC and heat load

Sizing an air conditioner is not an ordinary estimate.

The calculators in this area use per-area rules corrected for insulation, climate, orientation and shading. They are useful for getting your bearings and for talking to an installer, but they are not a heat-load calculation. A real one accounts for the exact build-up of walls and roof, thermal bridges, infiltration, internal gains, humidity and hour-by-hour climate data.

A badly sized unit is not just expensive: one that is too small never reaches temperature, and an oversized one short-cycles, dehumidifies poorly and wears out sooner. Selecting, installing and commissioning air conditioning equipment is work for a qualified installer under whatever rules apply where you live. The same goes for anything touching the structure, the electrical installation or the gas supply.

Disclaimer of warranties

The site is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to its accuracy, its fitness for a particular purpose or its uninterrupted availability. Care goes into the data and the formulas, and every page explains where each number comes from, but nobody can promise a website is free of errors. If you find one, tell us and it gets fixed.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the applicable law allows, the owner accepts no liability for loss arising from use of the site or from purchasing or construction decisions taken solely on the basis of these results, including material bought over or short, the cost of the work and lost profit.

This limitation does not affect rights that the law of your country of residence grants consumers on a mandatory basis.

Intellectual property

The design, text and code of DomusCalc belong to its owner. The results you get from the calculators are yours: use them however you like.

External data sources are cited on each page, on sources and updates and in the ingredient table. The Bricolage Grotesque and Instrument Sans typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, whose text is distributed alongside the files.

External links

When an external source is linked, it is to document a figure. The owner is not responsible for the content of third-party sites or for what they do with your data.

Advertising

The site is set up to be funded by Google AdSense advertising, but it shows no ads today. When it does, there will still be no recommended products and no affiliate links, and no result will be nudged to make you buy more.

Governing law

The owner runs the site from Louisiana, United States, and these terms are governed by the law of the State of Louisiana and applicable United States federal law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection and data protection rules of the visitor's country of residence, which apply as well.

Changes

These terms may change if the site changes. The date below is the last time the text itself was actually revised.
